International Women's Day is a time for women around the world to commemorate their struggles and celebrate their achievements. The United Nations formally proclaimed March 8 International Women's Day in 1975.

Individual tickets are $15.00. Reserve a table (of 8) for $115.00. To reserve, contact Louise Lanctot Chair of the Women’s Committee at 613-932-1943. Please make cheque payable to the Cornwall & District Labour Council and mail with list of participant names to P.O. Box 295, Cornwall, ON K6H 5T1.

This year's guest speaker is Nathalie Mehra, who is the director of the Ontario Health Coalition. In that capacity, Natalie is the ultimate spokesperson and ambassador for public medicare in Ontario.

Natalie is the woman who holds together and supports the efforts of over 400 non-partisan, grassroots community organizations who work to preserve and enhance our publicly-funded, publicly-administered health care system. Natalie Mehra is also a strong feminist force.

While she usually comes to Cornwall and area doing health-related public policy work, we are honoured to present her on this occasion as the keynote speaker at our annual International Women’s Day Breakfast.

The year 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the women’s movement and Natalie Mehra is an iconic example of a woman who exercises power on behalf of the whole community, and in so doing, inadvertently raises the ceiling for women in all areas of public life.

There are few people in Ontario who can rival Natalie’s knowledge of the healthcare system and there are few women in Canada who are so comfortable and competent in shaping public policy.
