Rock the Vote is Saturday June 25th 2011 @ Snails II (113 1/2 Pitt Street near the Cornwall Square Parking Garage). The event is All Ages from 3pm to 9pm (and 19+ after 9pm). This event will feature Live Music + Guest Speakers (both TBA).Tentative time table:
-Acoustic Show Case from 3pm to 5pm
-Rock/Metal/Rap from 5pm to 9pm
-Acoustic and Rock from 9:30pm to Closing
There might be a minimal charge at the door if I have to rent a PA system, but otherwise expect this event to be FREE!
This is the seventh Rock the Vote since the event began nine years ago in 2003. The annual event was created by Jason Setnyk and Elaine MacDonald and combines guest speakers with live music. The first Rock the Vote had guest speakers Jack Layton of the NDP, and Cornwall Mayor at the time Brian Sylvester. This year's Rock the Vote will feature amazing local music, local politicians and community activists. Jason Setnyk is resurrecting Rock the Vote, a concert that promotes voting to a younger demographic. “Civic responsibilities like voting and volunteering in the community are both important lessons for people of any age, and concerts like Rock the Vote are a yearly reminder for young adults to go out and get involved,” says school teacher and show promoter Jason Setnyk. “Rock the Vote is not going to change the world, but it might change a few people’s minds. But it can’t end at Rock the Vote, social responsibilities are learned with experience, at school, and at the dinner table, too,” explains Setnyk. "I was concerned by the low voter turn out at the last municipal election. Events like Rock the Vote are great to start a dialogue".
